Is the annual contribution limit for superannuation based on the financial year, or the birth year?

Q.

As a retiree approaching my 64th birthday I wish to add to my superannuation before I reach 65. Is the annual contribution limit in my situation based on the financial year, or the birth year?

A.

Unless you can pass the work test you cannot contribute to superannuation past the date of you 65th birthday.
